We are thrilled to present an extensive selection of classes designed to inspire and educate, all of which have received official approval from the state of Utah.
At Serenity Tree School of Natural Healing, we are deeply committed to ensuring our educational curriculum not only meets, but goes above and beyond the standards established by several prominent organizations. These include the Utah Massage Practice Act, the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB), and the American Therapy Association (AMTA).

Massage Therapy Program Course Description
REGISTERED UNDER THE UTAH POSTSECONDARY PROPRIETARY SCHOOL ACT (Title 13, Chapter 34, Utah Code). Registration under the Utah Postsecondary Proprietary School Act does not mean that the State of Utah supervises, recommends, nor accredits the institution. It is the student's responsibility to determine whether credits, degrees, or certificates from the institution will transfer to other institutions or meet employer's training requirements. This may be done by calling the prospective school or employer. The institution is not accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.
Our program is 750 hours total. Of those hours, 600 hours of classroom instruction and 150 clinical hours in our on site day spa and wellness center. Our classroom hours includes several online classes that cover massage theory. All massage modality classes are held in person at our campus located in Perry, Utah. The class descriptions are listed below and will state whether the classes are held online or are held in person.
All hands-on portions are required to be held on campus in order to be compliant with the State of Utah regulations. Students must complete all 750 hours in order to graduate from the program and obtain their massage therapy license through the State of Utah.
Applied Anatomy and Physiology – 50 Hours
This course is a study of the structures and functions of the human body relevant to multiple manual therapy practices. The intention of this course is to provide the anatomy and physiology knowledge needed for clinical decision-making in the practice of various manual therapies and for communication with other health care professionals. This course is offered online.
Applied Kinesiology & Assessment- 32 Hours
Students will be able to define and explain the terms kinesiology, arthrology, myology, biomechanics, body mechanics, ergonomics, and body awareness. They will be able to accurately describe the anatomical position and planes of division and use directional terms and body region names appropriately. Students will be able to identify the various types of joints, describe the movements available at each, and list examples of each. They will be able to explain the mechanisms in the body that generate ATP, the characteristics of different types of muscle tissues, and the types of contractions. Students will be able to identify and describe major types of body movements. This course is a hybrid of online class.
Aromatherapy – 8 Hours
This course is a study of Aromatherapy. Students will learn how to apply aromatherapy using essential oils into their massage session. They will learn what essential oils are and the benefits of using essential oils. Aromatherapy is an effective tool that will help provide relaxation to the body, stimulate the brain and bring peace to those in the session. Essential oils can be mixed with the massage lotion to provide a more peaceful and relaxing massage. By the end of the class students will know how to incorporate aromatherapy into their sessions and perform both the Aroma Touch technique massage. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Chair Massage – 8 Hours
This course is a study of Chair Massage. Students will learn the proper mechanics to administer a chair massage aka seated massage. Chair massage is a great tool to market and grow your massage business. This modality is very versatile and mobile. It can allow you to attend fairs, workplace events, and other gatherings that would allow people to have quick massage. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Craniosacral Therapy – 32 Hours
Students will be able to perform craniosacral therapy a form of bodywork that uses gentle touch to palpate the synarthrodial joints in the skull. It helps to relieve tension in the central nervous system and promote wellness throughout the body. It helps to alleviate pain and boost immunity. This technique has helped people calm anxiety and relieve headaches. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Crystal Therapy – 8 Hours
This course is a study of Crystal Therapy. Students will learn what Crystals are and how to use them effectively in their practice. Utilizing Crystals as a tool will help to bring peace and balance into the client’s energy and into their sessions. Crystals can be paired with several different modalities to help bring peace and relaxation into the sessions. By the end of this course the student will be able to perform a Crystal Therapy session for clients. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Deep Tissue Massage – 24 Hours
Deep tissue consists of slow localized pressure that accesses the deeper tissue layers. Deep tissue does not mean hard. It does not need to hurt in order to provide relaxation to the deep muscles. By applying vibrational techniques, it can help relax the deep levels of the muscles. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Eastern Medicine – 28 Hours
Students will have an understanding of several different modalities of Eastern Medicine. They will be able to locate chakras, energy meridians, face reading and acupressure points. They will have an understanding of how Eastern and Western modalities complement each other and provide a holistic healthcare option. This course is offered online.
Sound Therapy – 16 Hours
Students will have an understanding of several different modalities of Eastern Medicine. Students will have an understanding how sound therapy is considered therapeutic. They will also know how to use tuning forks and singing bowls to incorporate into their practice. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Chakras – 8 Hours
Students will have an understanding of several different modalities of Eastern Medicine. They will be able to locate chakras, energy meridians, face reading and acupressure points. They will have an understanding of how Chakras work and how they effect the body, mind and spirit. This course is offered online.
Ethics – 8 Hours
In this course students will learn the scope of practice within massage therapy. The students will have an understanding of ethics and other regulations. Preparing students to review course information throughout the program to help them to be ready to take the MBLEX test. Gaining knowledge of state massage therapy regulations and requirements. This course is offered online.
Professional Standards and Business – 32 Hours
In this course students will learn the scope of practice within massage therapy. The students will have an understanding of regulations and business practices. Preparing students to review course information throughout the program to help them to be ready to take the MBLEX test. Gaining knowledge of state massage therapy regulations and requirements. Learning how to set up your massage therapy business, file taxes, be compliant with state regulations, complete license procedures and obtain massage therapy insurance. This course is offered online.
Sanitations, First Aid and CPR – 15 Hours
This course is a study of CPR and First Aid. Students will have an understanding of how to perform Adult, Child and Infant CPR and First Aid. The certification will help prepare students how to assist in an emergency. In this course students will be able to properly care and maintain their massage equipment. They will know how to properly sanitize their equipment and help stop the spread of germs and pathogens. Students will know how to set up their massage equipment and set it to their height for proper body mechanics. They will experiment with different lubricants and demonstrate effective handwashing. This course is a hybrid of online and in-person class.
Hydrotherapy, Spa, Hot Stones – 24 Hours
Students will be learning different techniques to perform spa treatments. They will learn how hydrotherapy can help heal the body. How to properly clean up treatments after sessions. Students will learn the proper techniques to give a Hot Stone Massage to clients. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Japanese Shiatsu – 28 Hours
Japanese Shiatsu is an ancient bodywork that was developed in Japan from Chinese massage. Shiatsu means “finger pressure”. It pulls concepts from Traditional Oriental Medicine. It involves opening energy flow or Ki through the meridian lines and acupressure points. This technique helps to release tension, relax muscles and reduce pain. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Lymphatic Massage – 12 Hours
Students will be able to perform Lymphatic massage techniques. Lymphatic massage is very beneficial to the body. It helps to increase lymphatic flow to cleanse and remove toxins from the body. Helps to promote healing and reduces inflammation in the body. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Medical Terminology – 3 Hours
This chapter opens with a discussion of medical terminology and the reasons massage therapists should learn and use medical terms. The origins of medical terminology are presented along with the three-word elements--roots, prefixes, and suffixes—and combining vowels. Guidelines for translating terms are given along with a reminder of the importance of proper spelling and pronunciation. This course is offered online.
Pathology – 40 Hours
Pathology is the study of what causes disease. As massage therapists we must have an understanding of what we may encounter in the workforce. Pathologies are discussed in the context of massage therapy, with emphasis on critical thinking and practical application of concepts. This course is offered online.
Prenatal, Infant & Specialty Massage – 20 Hours
Students will be able to perform massage techniques that will benefit pregnant clients, infants and specialty groups. Learning how to connect with infants to get their consent for touch and provide relaxation to their bodies at any age. Learning the benefits, effects, and contraindications for pregnancy, infant, and specialty groups massage. Providing emotional support to all clients. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Reflexology – 28 Hours
Reflexology is an ancient art that Chinese and Egyptians both practiced throughout the centuries. Reflexology involves in stimulating pressure points in the hands, feet and ears. By stimulating these pressure points it can release muscle tension, fatigue, improve circulation, promote relaxation of the body, mind and spirit. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Reiki Level 1 & Level 2 - 16 hours
This course is a study of the Japanese technique known as Reiki. Reiki helps to provide relaxation, reduces stress and promotes healing. It was discovered by Mikao Usui in March 1922. Reiki is delivered through the “laying of hands” and techniques that have been practiced for thousands of years. Reiki is very simple and powerful technique that can be learned and used by anyone. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Sports Massage – 16 Hours
Students will know the benefits of helping athletes pre, post event and recovery. This class will help students learn how to stretch the muscles to help prevent injury, reduce inflammation and pain. These techniques will speed up recovery and help the athlete’s performance. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Swedish Massage – 40 Hours
Students will be able to name the three client positions and describe proper draping procedures for each. They will be able to identify the basic massage strokes and their effects on the body. They will be able to assist clients on and off the massage table. Students will be able to demonstrate each massage stroke in the chapter and will be able to perform abdominal massage. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Thai Massage – 32 Hours
Thai massage is a powerful ancient bodywork that helps the body to heal itself. It uses techniques like reflexology, yoga stretching techniques, and acupressure to open up the flow of the body’s energy. This modality helps relieve pain, inflammation, and tension. This bodywork can be performed on all ages. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Trail Guide to the Body – 40 Hours
This course covers numerous anatomical structures, to help students develop knowledge and build palpation skills that will lay the groundwork for becoming manual therapists who are fluent in verbal, visual, and palpatory anatomy language. This course incorporates current adult learning theories, instructional design, and best-practice assessment and evaluation methods. This course is offered online.
Trigger Point (Myofascial) Therapy – 32 Hours
Students will understand the phases of the healing process. Students will be able to perform trigger point therapy and myofascial release. Myofascial therapy helps to alleviate pain and tension in the soft tissue. The student will learn techniques that help stretch the fascia to help loosen tight muscles. This course is hands-on and students are required to attend in-person.
Clinic Course Work – 150 Hours
Student will be required to complete a total of 150 hours of clinic work at Serenity Tree School of Natural Healing Day Spa. As they learn a modality, they will be able to offer that as one of their services. The students will have the opportunity to earn tips for clinic hours completed. Students will be required to complete all 150 hours of clinic hours in order to graduate. Students will be required to clock in and out of their clinic hours, write soap notes for each client, maintain a professional appearance and attitude servicing the public.
